The Warehouse Distribution Program
Every Monday through Thursday, the Mid-South Food Bank warehouse at 239 South Dudley in Memphis is a hub of activity as member agencies arrive to pick up the orders of food and other grocery items they chose from the weekly shopping list. Mid-South Food Bank is the only organization in the Mid-South, public or private, that collects and distributes wholesome food to any qualified not-for-profit agency that feeds needy people free of charge. The agencies pay a small handling fee, which averages 10 cents per pound.
Delivery Available
Many of our agencies participate in the delivery program. This program allows agencies to order what they need to serve their clients instead of what they can fit in their vehicles. The Food Bank delivers larger orders of food to agencies: a minimum of 4,000 pounds to agencies outside of Shelby County and 2,000 pounds inside Shelby County. Smaller agencies can combine their orders with larger agencies, which then act as a hub to accept the delivery.
The Pantry
When Food Bank member agencies come to pick up their orders, they can also come to the Mid-South Food Bank's Pantry, where smaller quantities of a variety of foods are available in a grocery-store setting. The Pantry is also where agencies can get bread, fresh produce and other specialty items. With an ever-changing variety of food offered, The Pantry is a popular place with agencies who can shop while their orders are being readied for pick-up in the warehouse.
Perishable Food Recovery Program
Through our Perishable Food Recovery Program, refrigerated Mid-South Food Bank trucks collect perishable food donated by retail stores including Walmart, Kroger and Target for distribution to our member agencies, mostly through the Pantry.
Mobile Pantry
A program to deliver large quantities of food to underserved, rural areas in the Mid-South. The Mobile Pantry brings truckloads of food to agencies for rapid distribution to qualified recipients.
